Resume

From there to here, from here to there, your supporters are everywhere.

Working as a teacher was some of the best training I could've hoped for because there's no fooling children - either your explanations make sense to them...or they don't. And over time, I became fairly adept at convincing my students to do the right job.

In January of 2018, after nine years of teaching, I transitioned out of the classroom and into the advancement office of a dynamic and innovative school.

As the in-house copywriter for a team that raised $2MM annually, I wrote hundreds of direct response emails, newsletter articles, auction package (catalog) descriptions, and fundraising appeals in the voice of more than a dozen different people.

My copy is clean, emotionally compelling, and research-based. I can help you reach your "head nodders," a.k.a. the people who already want to say yes to you. Of course you want to spark their interest, and also nudge them towards opening their hearts, minds, and wallets to support your organization.

You'll like my style if you are a human who talks to other humans. Your supporters want to hear how YOU can help THEM solve a problem or fulfill a need, so let's get started!

WORK EXPERIENCE

2021

Manitowish Waters Chamber of Commerce, Assistant Director

What does one do in a Chamber office? What didn't I do! Duties included copywriting, marketing, fundraising, managing social media accounts, designing ads, bookkeeping, planning events, and recruiting new members. I answered fantastic questions for members and visitors, wrote all internal and external communications, maintained our membership database, and updated the website (a Wordpress site).

2018-2020

Catlin Gabel Fund, Assistant Director

What began as a temporary event support position primarily writing auction package descriptions, ballooned into a full-time copywriting position in direct response fundraising. The sheer volume and diversity of projects I worked on prepared me well for working with future clients. What I did best: I was a human writing to fellow humans, in plain speak, with honesty, integrity, and passion behind every word. And I helped raise a lot of money for the school.

2010-2017

Classroom teacher & assistant

I taught children ages 3-18, primarily focusing on Pre-K and Kindergarten. Early childhood is a wonderfully imaginative time, and I found these young students to be capable of much more than the average grown-up might think. Clarity in explanations and expectations was essential, the same as in copywriting. I wrote a daily classroom blog, completed a master's degree in education, and helped the administration with communications, admissions, and fundraising support.

2006-2009

Natural Science educator

As an AmeriCorps volunteer and graduate student in natural science education, I designed lessons and took students outside in nature to help them connect directly with their place. This is originally where my mantra, "connection inspires care," developed, which has informed every professional decision I've made since.
